The Truth About Uncertainty…and What You Can Do About it
Uncertainty. The one word that makes us all want to run for the hills.
To sprint to the top of mountains, breathless and panicking; gasping for clarity. To search for the outcome, maybe the future or at least an answer.
Where is the f**king answer?
You reach the top of your hill climb sprint, only to realise, there is nothing but space. Empty space. Yet still, no answer.
Only a stillness.
That makes you incredibly uncomfortable.
Literally, skin crawlingly sick and sweaty.
Right there, right then you want to crawl under a rock and hide forever.
And so you do.
Just for a moment.
Until you realise.
This rock is just as still. It is just as silent. And you’re feeling kind of sticky.
And so, you run.
Run for the hills, this time home.
And collapse in a pool of uncertainty, bathed in a sweaty eternity.
And hurl up your heart in hope of sweet, sweet clarity.
Hoping to escape this uncertain calamity.
Did you feel that?
The fear. The panic. The force?
The extreme, fear fuelled reaction to a certain tainted word?
Perhaps it’s time we tainted this uncertain word with something new.
Because, in a world of uncertainty, it’s the only thing we can do.
So, let’s take a look at the world from a birds eye view:
1. Uncertainty Sets You Free
Certainty keeps you shackled to all you have ever known and to all you were expected to become. Whether these expectations were set upon yourself, or by someone else; what is certain is that with certainty it will most certainly be.
Perhaps, you’ve just lost a big part of you.
Your job, your home, your love.
Where would you be in five years time if this thing had remained in your life?
Get honest. Would you be happy? Would you be fulfilled?
Or would there always be a ‘what if?’
What if you deserved something more?
Uncertainty may shake the absolute s**t from your bones, but it will always set you free. Free to find a new path and to align with something that was made for your soul.
2. Uncertainty Allows You to Receive
When you have nothing, you have space for everything.
You can attract a whole new world into your reality.
Certainty allows for nothing. Uncertainty allows for everything. When nothing is certain every possibility is open for you to receive. Think about it.
If you were in a steady, comfortable and partially loving relationship would you be open to receiving more?
Probably not. You would be stuck in your penguin partnership for life, drowning in the reality that your needs are not really being met; not noticing anything or anyone else around you.
If you were in a well paid, stable yet soul less job, how would you be spending your lunch break?
Would you be high vibing with like minded people who have the potential to give you an exciting new career opportunity?
Probably not. You’d most likely be moaning and groaning in the back office, eating your spam sandwich and complaining with other colleagues who also hate the living s**t out of their life.
When you are filled with uncertainty, get excited.
For you never know who, what or how things may appear on your path.
Fill up your uncertainty cup with the excitement of every possibility.
3. Uncertainty Gives You a New Day, Every Day
When things are certain, we know what to expect.
We know what we will wear the next day, we know what we will eat. We know what time we will get up and what time we will go to sleep.
We know where we will do our weekly grocery shop, we know when to pick up the kids, we know (sometimes) when we might get a moments rest.
We know how work works, when to submit our deadlines, when to sign in, check out, drive home and pack up.
We know everything, about most days.
If not, every day.
How it will work out, what to expect, how to be.
Fuck that.
Uncertainty is the real dream.
Imagine waking up every day, with nowhere to be.
No job, no house, no duties, no tasks, no expectations, no obligations.
Where would you choose to be?
Allow uncertainty to reignite the real you.
The person you were before life laid you down and said, this is how it should be. The person you were, when you were young, wild and free.
Uncertainty does not require you to keep on running.
Uncertainty does not require you to keep on sweating.
Uncertainty only asks ‘What is it that you have always been dreaming?’
